Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland

Arguably one of the most breath taking views in all of Ireland is the Cliffs of Moher. Anytime I am near the Western Coast of Ireland, I take the opportunity to visit this amazing location, to take in all of the natural beauty and splendor which it offers. When standing near the edge of these beautiful cliffs you are given the unique opportunity to feel the raw natural energy of Ireland, the smell of the sea, and wind blowing through your hair is an other worldly experience that takes you away from the everyday life and instead into that moment. The views can hardly be expressed in words; all you can see is the seemingly endless view of the clear blue water and skyline that seems to stretch on for eternity. When approaching the cliffs you are given a spectacular view of the dramatic cliffs amongst the lush green grass of the land and the stunning blue of the water, it is truly an amazing sight.

The Cliffs of Moher are also home to over twenty species of birds including one of my favorites the Puffins. Puffins actually nest here so if you come during the right season you will be given the opportunity to see these adorable birds amongst others.   The cliffs are located on the west coast of Ireland, in county Clare, in the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way. They are about five miles in length and at their height point are over 700 foot tall. Depending upon the weather you may be able to see some of The Cliffs of Moher’s neighbors the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, or even the Dingle Peninsula.   A warning for those who are afraid of heights or unsteady on their feet the walkway across the cliffs can be a bit treacherous at times, especially when wet. Wear comfortable shoes with some tread. Also, remember to stay behind the safety rock barricade, there are recorded deaths at the Cliffs yearly from visitors who climb over to the edge of the cliff and get carried off  the edge by the large gusts of wind.
