The Great Jack O Latern Blaze

This unique fall event takes the art of Jack O’ Lantern carving and sculpting to new heights with over 7,000 different hand carved pieces by a team of different pumpkin artists. This Jack O’ Lantern event isn’t just popular due to the amount of pumpkins but instead the artistry level which takes the humble pumpkin and elevates it to unseen levels which brings awe to all those who visit. With sychronized lights, music, and of course the perfect period backdrop this yearly event is one of the most unique in the country. Each year this display evolves and grows making it an ever changing fall tradition. I have been attending the event for multiple years and each year is able to surprise and enchant with displays that range from whimsical to jaw dropping and never disappointing. Though every piece is completely unique there are a group that definitely stand out in the crowd, due to sheer size and mechanical skill the full size moving carousel and towering windmills are a sight to behold. For those with a more refined eye the Jack O’ Lantern art gallery is awe inspiring with Halloween twists on such classics as Andy Warhols Campbells Soup Can and Van Goghs Starry Night the pure talent of the artists abilities shine bright. The towering structures of the Sleepy Hollow Bridge which includes a ceiling of Jack’ O Lantern Bats, Constantelation walk through full of stunning stars, and life sized bridge for patrons to walk over it is hard to dismiss the craft that goes into these pieces. My favorite additions of the year were the Celtic pumpkin area, which had a collection of highly detailed celtic knot Jack O’ Lanterns and even a reimagined stained glass window church setting.  No matter what your taste in Jack O’Lantern from the classic to the imaginative there will be something here that draws you in and makes you appreate this simple vegetable so much more.

Due to this events popularity, the tickets are sold in time increments to avoid major back ups in the walk through. Its always better to buy your tickets early because the time slots and dates fill quickly. The average length is about an hour to see all of the creations and is on pretty manueverable ground. Its always a good idea to show up early though so you can get parking and aren’t waiting too long in line. Don’t worry though if you arrive too early,  before you go through the entrance to the Blaze there is both a Blaze “Pub” which offers a few different seasonal drinks and snack bar to get yourself in the spirit before your adventure begins in the event.
